London 2012 fencing: Game and medal count

London: Fencing has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. Women's foil made its Olympic debut in Paris, during the 1924 Olympic Games. There are three forms of Olympic fencing:
  • Foil — a light thrusting weapon; the valid target is restricted to the torso; double touches are not allowed.
  • Épée — a heavy thrusting weapon; the valid target area covers the entire body; double touches are allowed.
  • Sabre — a light cutting and thrusting weapon; the valid target area includes almost everything above the waist (excluding the back of the head and the hands); double touches are not allowed.
In the men's individual Sabre on Sunday Hungary's Aron Szilagyi won gold after his path to the podium cleared with the early exit of the German and Russian top seeds.
Fifth seeded Szilagyi beat 14th seed Diego Occhiuzzi of Italy 15-8, matching the outcome between the two countries when London hosted the 1948 Olympics.
Fencing competitions at the 2012 London Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 5 at ExCeL Exhibition Centre.

Google doodles London 2012 Archery

Google doodles London 2012 Archery

London: Google continued to celebrate the Olympic on the second consecutive day with its doodle on the search pages across the world. Today's doodle features the sport of archery and depicts a female archer aiming on a green field, reminiscent of the historic Lord's cricket ground where the archery events of the Summer Games are being held.
On Friday, Google had celebrated the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics with their doodle depicting 5 athletes playing different Olympic sports.

The archery event debuted at the 1900 Summer Olympics, and was dropped later after the 1908 London Olympics. The event was re-introduced in the games at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Google's daily Olympic doodle tradition began with the 2000 Sydney Olympics and continued through the winter and summer Olympic. The tech giant is expected to release different doodles on each day of the summer games.

The archery events for the London Olympics began on Friday, before the opening ceremony and will continue till August 3. In all 128 competitors (64 men and 64 women) are participating in the archery events at London Olympics 2012. Each country's contingent is limited to six athletes (three men and three women).

However, it was a disappointing start to the proceedings for India with the men's archery team finishing at 12th in the ranking round held at the Lord's Cricket Ground.

Batman: DC Comics' most famous billionaire back in action

- Batman: Dark Knight Rises. Written/directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway.
GIRLS, do not go and see Batman: Dark Knight Rises with your boyfriend this weekend. He will ignore you, shush you, or quite possibly ask you sit in a separate row if you start with the "who's that guy?" stuff.
Sure, there are females out there who are just as obsessed with DC Comics' most famous billionaire as the fanboys are. But let's face it: most of the fans salivating all over their laptops are male. (Case in point: a whopping 93 per cent of "New 52" DC Comic readers are male, according to a February Nielsen report.)
And there was outrage last year when it was revealed that only one per cent of DC Comics creators were female, resulting in last week's very timely announcement that Ann Nocenti would take over duties as Catwoman comics' writer.
It's all about Batman on the net right now, from the claim that the film might be a liberal attack on U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to how Batman, not Barbie, is helping to save Mattel's bottom line. Read More...
